A fundraising initiative is aiming to launch a Palestinian lullaby to the peak of the festive singles chart. The project hopes to deliver assistance to people in Gaza while also showcasing Palestinian culture and creativity.
Musician and artist Brian Eno, who performs on the track, stated that the song titled Lullaby represents a opportunity to support Palestinians this festive season. He remarked the potential for an unexpected chart success.
“It would be incredible if that came to pass, yes,” he stated. “I wouldn't be completely let down if it fails to, Christmas singles are a unique phenomenon.”
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who features in the adaptation of a cultural piece called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the piece's defiant core message.
“It has a deeply meaningful spot for a lot of people,” Barghouti shared. “The message is that I would prefer a dignified death than spend my life without freedom. That is the core idea of the song; we desire to exist a life of dignity that we merit as a people.”
The track was produced in the wake of a solidarity show held in late summer. Originally intended to be captured during the live event, the rendition was shelved during the concert due to time constraints.
The impressive roster of performers appearing on Lullaby includes a group of well-known figures from the scene. All took part in the September show, which reportedly raised a substantial amount for charitable causes.
Lullaby was produced by a group of talented individuals. The track features a combination of the traditional Arabic lyrics with new English lyrics.
The organizers behind the campaign have stated that their goal is to generate maximum funds for a charitable pot. These proceeds will be distributed to initiatives supporting Palestinians through an non-profit partner.
“We haven't set a fixed goal,” a spokesperson commented. “We aim for as much as possible. Naturally, the more the merrier. All proceeds are directed out to those in need in Gaza.”
The situation in the area was noted for its extreme devastation, with a vast majority of property said to be in ruins or severely impacted.
“In that context, a handful of millions is unlikely to make an enormous impact. But I think what truly matters is primarily raising awareness for this issue and demonstrating that another narrative exists.”
The track is set to be released this Friday. Additionally, a complete film of the charity concert will be made available for streaming on a popular streaming site from later in the month.
