Fashion legend Antony Price, the groundbreaking British fashion designer behind many legendary styles worn by artists from David Bowie to Roxy Music and even royalty like Queen Camilla, has sadly died at the age of 80.

He was celebrated for his architectural shapes and performative fashion, such as the pastel suits that featured in the pop-rock group Duran Duran's classic music video for "the song Rio".

"They honored him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' Duran Duran shared a message across their platforms."

His passing follows shortly after he debuted his most recent collection in London, his first in more than 30 years. Artist Lily Allen showcased a dress inspired by the famous black velvet "dress" historically worn by the late Princess Diana.

An Enduring Influence

Born in Yorkshire in 1945, Price moved to London during the sixties to study at the prestigious Royal College of Art.

Shortly after his graduation, he commenced his career designing menswear at the label Stirling Copper and was the creator of the body-hugging, buttoned trousers that rock legend Mick Jagger famously wore during the iconic group's Gimme Shelter tour in 1969.

He founded his own label in 1979 and staged his first fashion show a year later. The show opened with creations worn by model Jerry Hall, who also wore the wedding dress Price designed for her for her marriage to Sir Mick Jagger.

Partnerships with Stars

A long-time collaborator of David Bowie, Price was the mind behind the iconic jacket the singer wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His characteristic talent to merge tailoring for all genders along with his expert craftsmanship in designing form-fitting garments made him a "one-of-a-kind talent," as stated by the British Fashion Council.

In the 1990s, he started creating pieces for Camilla, now Queen Consort, which included various looks for her US tour after becoming Duchess.

With a vocation that covered over fifty years, Price presented his final runway show in London just last month in conjunction with the fashion brand 16Arlington.

  • Sculpted Silhouettes: A hallmark of his work.
  • Dramatic Impact: Defining an era of music fashion.
  • Gender-Fluid Fashion: Merging menswear with womenswear.
  • A Client List from Rock to Royalty: From David Bowie and Mick Jagger to Queen Camilla.

The industry laments the passing to a authentic original whose impact on fashion and music remains profoundly felt.
