The beloved crime series AC-12 will make a comeback for its seventh installment, confirmed by the BBC.

A brand new six-part series created by the show's creator starts production in Northern Ireland this spring, according to the network.

Vicky McClure shared her enthusiasm about the comeback, saying she was "so excited" about the show's renewal. Adrian Dunbar added, "What a joy it is to know that the Three Amigos will be reuniting together soon."

The previous series concluded in recent years with a finale that drew in over 17 million viewers. Rumors about a new season have been widespread for some time, but confirmation only arrived recently.

New Challenges for The Team

Series seven will open with AC-12 having been disbanded and renamed as the Inspectorate of Police Standards, as revealed by production details.

Martin Compston's character, Vicky McClure's role, and Ted Hastings continue tasked to combat corruption within the police force.

The team's mission "has never been more difficult", and under these circumstances, these officers will take on their "most sensitive case to date."

Fresh Face and Complex Case

A new character, DI Dominic Gough, described as a charismatic officer known for takedowns of organized crime, faces allegations of abusing his position to act as a offender.

However, this investigation could be a deliberate distraction from a bigger threat still active in the background, plot details hinted.

In a statement, Jed Mercurio said: "Everyone involved are deeply thankful to the dedicated viewers."

"We're privileged to have had countless followers track the ups and downs of the unit over multiple series and we couldn't be more delighted to be returning for a new installment."

Mercurio continued: "Misconduct in the UK was thought to be over while the series was off air, so I've been forced to use my imagination."

Actor Responses

Martin Compston described appearing in the police drama as "the role of a career".

"Not only the show's success but the people I've worked with I now call dear friends."

"I can't wait to wear the uniform again and reunite with everyone," he said.

The Nottingham-born actress remarked: "Obviously I'm very happy the show is back! Can't wait to work with Jed, Martin and Adrian again. The city, we'll see you soon!"

The veteran actor commented: "While anticipating the unit return, what a joy it is to know that the Three Amigos will be working together next year."

"Delighted with the news and looking forward to those unexpected plot developments."

Series Legacy

The drama launched in 2012 and evolved into one of the most popular television series of the past ten years, featuring guest stars such as Thandiwe Newton.

Broadcasters has not yet announced exactly the new season will hit screens.

The conclusion of season six brought the extended plot about the search for kingpin known as "the mysterious H" to a close, and the creative team said at the time there were no intentions for further series.

However, the corporation announced on Tuesday that a seventh series is now in development.
