Slot Insists He Feels Safe and Retains Liverpool's Support Following PSV Defeat

Arne Slot acknowledged that it's understandable for concerns to be asked about his position following another convincing defeat against the Dutch champions.

The Reds suffered their 9th defeat in 12 games, representing the team's worst run since being relegated in the 1953-54 season.

They were dominated by the Eredivisie champions on a difficult evening at their home ground.

“I'm confident, I am OK, I've received significant backing from management,” Slot commented.

“It would be nice to turn it around and secure a win naturally but if you are working as a coach and not doing well then it's expected that people question you.”

He continued, “I am OK with my position. This isn't the first time I've found myself in a challenging situation but it's crucial that we changed our fortunes.”

Conversations with Club Management

Upon being questioned to expand on his discussions with the club's leadership, the head coach said:

“We communicate frequently. They are helpful for the squad and for me and those talks happen but they don't phone me constantly each day to say they back me.”

He mentioned, “During our regular discussions I feel the belief. However I've not talked to them since this defeat so far so let’s see.”

Familiar Problems and Player Response

The manager lamented recurring shortcomings from his team in their Champions League loss, specifically poor finishing and conceding too easily.

Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was blunter in his evaluation of the current crisis.

“I don’t have the solutions. Truthfully, I don’t. I’m saying that to all,” Jones said.

“It’s just unacceptable. I don’t even have to wait to think about it. I’m past feeling anger internally. I've reached the stage currently where I just don’t have the phrases.”

He continued, “It’s hard because I’m playing for the club I love. I'm a supporter, and I've watched this club for years.”

“For many years, I haven’t experienced a Reds side going through a phase such as this with outcomes like these.”

He concluded, “But we still have that badge on our chest. And until that badge is removed, we will always battle.”
