The 'Breaking Bad' Creator Discloses He Has a Plan for How His Sci-Fi Series Will End... For Now.

The acclaimed writer-producer could not have predicted that the Apple TV+ show would turn into a cultural phenomenon. “God bless the fans,” he states. “It was unexpected the show being as talked about as it is, and it makes me thrilled beyond words.”

Now that Season 1 of the hit program coming to an end—and the next chapter officially in the works—the creative team reflected on the fan response and whether it will shape the future direction of Pluribus.

On the Incredible Audience Reaction

One could easily to get swayed by the constant speculation and audience predictions surrounding Pluribus. The creator is doing his best to steer clear of all that.

“It's like being an endless supply of your favorite dessert and being in a state of bliss,” he describes. “It's amazing, but I get wind of it from others, and that's on purpose. Not once have I Googled myself, nor do I ever plan to. It's not a lack of interest. It's a rabbit hole I know I would get lost in and then I'd be never leaving the house from the hardware store and I'd rarely emerge from my living room.”

In spite of trying to stay away, there’s it's impossible to ignore the overwhelmingly positive response to the series. The best he and his team can do is to accept it graciously and try not to let it alter the course of the show.

“We don't try to tailor anything,” says writer and executive producer Alison Tatlock. “The narrative we craft is not influenced by audience chatter.”

“It's wiser to keep our focus on the work,” Gilligan adds.

The Central Mystery: Does the showrunner Have a Plan for the Conclusion of Pluribus?

So if Gilligan and his team aren’t being guided by audience theories, can we assume they already know how Pluribus will finally conclude? The answer is yes… sort of.

“We've developed some potential directions about the ultimate destination,” he states. “yet we stand ready to discard a decent plan for a more brilliant plan. That philosophy has guided us in well on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We throw stuff out when we find a more perfect path and I imagine we will be doing that.”

Alternatively, if they hit a wall, executive producer Gordon Smith has a rather amusing idea to fall back on.

“My recurring proposal is that the entire story is inside a snow globe, and that we'll pull back at the end and we're in there,” Smith jokes, “though the idea hasn't gained traction.”

Of course, one could always use the legendary finales?

“I want Carol to open her eyes beside Bob Newhart,” Gilligan adds, smiling.

Pluribus is currently available on the streaming service.
